The government had planned to restart slashing the salaries of civil servants for the Dam construction. However, more than half of the civil servants in regional offices sent letters to the Justice office, Labor and Social Affairs asking the following “liberate us by taking the bonds you have given us, take only 10% from our salaries and I cannot even eat please postpone it to next year”. In their letter, the prisoners said soldiers of the Ethiopian Defense Forces have beaten them with steel rods. Last week, ESAT reported that the prisoners had said that they were arrested for over two years without getting any justice; thus the prisoners began collecting signatures of complaint to be sent to Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.
